Vantageway Islamic Relief & Development Foundation (VIRD Foundation) is a Ghana-based, non-profit, non-political, community-centred, faith-inspired, inclusive and non-discriminatory humanitarian and development organisation established in response to the persistent and interconnected vulnerabilities experienced by individuals, households and communities, particularly those living in underserved and economically disadvantaged areas.
VIRD foundation seeks to bridge the gap between emergency assistance and long-term development.
We believe that people should not remain permanently dependent on assistance. Humanitarian support should, wherever possible, create pathways toward recovery, resilience, empowerment and sustainable opportunity.
In many underserved communities, these challenges do not occur in isolation. A household experiencing food insecurity may also face inadequate water and sanitation, poor access to healthcare, limited educational opportunities and insufficient income. Similarly, young people may face barriers to skills development and employment, while women and vulnerable households may have limited access to productive assets, finance and social protection. These interconnected challenges require responses that go beyond short-term relief and address the underlying factors that perpetuate vulnerability.
VIRD Foundation therefore adopts an integrated humanitarian, development and resilience approach that combines immediate assistance with longer-term interventions aimed at strengthening household and community capacity. The Foundation seeks to support communities not only during periods of crisis, but also in their efforts to recover, become more resilient and create sustainable pathways towards improved livelihoods and self-reliance.

OUR STORY
Why VIRD Foundation Exists
VIRD Foundation was established to respond to a clear and continuing reality: across Northern Ghana, vulnerable individuals and communities face overlapping humanitarian, development and social challenges that require more than short-term assistance. VIRD Foundation exists to connect immediate relief with long-term, sustainable development — combining accountable humanitarian assistance, integrated development programming and Islamic social investment into a single, coherent approach captured in our strategic theme: From Relief to Resilience, From Vulnerability to Opportunity.
Our work is grounded in the belief that humanitarian assistance alone is not enough — that lasting change requires resilience-building, community ownership and Islamic ethics of compassion, generosity and shared responsibility working together.

How we work
We connect immediate humanitarian assistance with longer-term development interventions.
Community-first practice
Before major interventions, we use community consultations, baseline assessments, household surveys, vulnerability analysis, stakeholder mapping, gender analysis, disability inclusion analysis, environmental assessment and community priority ranking.

GOVERNANCE & LEADERSHIP

VIRD Foundation's governance architecture supports accountability, strategic oversight and responsible programme implementation.
Governance structure

Advisory Council
The Advisory Council provides strategic, technical and professional advice. Its potential expertise includes development, humanitarian response, Islamic finance, health, education, agriculture, WASH, finance, law, governance, research, technology, private sector and community development.
Sharia Advisory Council
The Sharia Advisory Council provides religious guidance and oversight to ensure VIRD Foundation’s programmes, policies and financial practices comply with Islamic principles.
Appointments
Board and Advisory Council members will be published once formally confirmed. VIRD Foundation will not present unconfirmed individuals as office-holders.
